I did not have any difficulty setting up this treadmill, it came mostly assembled. Training was a cinch and my dog was walking on this treadmill within an hour of having received it.  I stay seated nearby to keep a close eye on how she’s doing and also to give words of encouragement.

As for how my dog likes this treadmill; I think it’s safe to say that she LOVES it. She really seems to look forward to walking on it almost as much as she enjoys going for a real walk. If I even mention the treadmill her tail starts wagging and she trots on over to it. Our winter and summer routine when it’s too cold or hot for a walk is usually 20 minutes in the morning, 20 minutes at night and just fast enough that it’s like a brisk walk.  Sometimes she likes to go as slow as .7 mph and as fast as 1.7 mph (she weighs about 5 lbs, but this treadmill can go faster for larger dogs).  She is a terrier with lots of energy so sometimes I have her at a slow jog.

dogPACER Minipacer Treadmill Review

Overall; an expensive purchase but one that I feel was well worth it. I feel good knowing that my lil’ girl can still get a little activity in her day and seems to really enjoy this. I would definitely purchase again if need be, but I hope that this one will continue to run for years to come.

One of my friends also bought this dogPACER Minipacer Treadmill for their Miniature Australian Shepherd. They live where the snow piles up so this works out really well for their dog too.

Once ordered, it arrived within a week, in perfect condition, in extremely sturdy packaging with FREE shipping. Following the excellent instructional guide included, it was super easy to setup.

Once I had it setup, my dog became very curious about this new “toy”. To lessen any anxiety, I sprayed her with a little bit of Rescue Remedy – BEFORE I ever flipped the switch. After a few minutes, I stood her on the machine, turned it on, and very slowly advanced the speed a bit at a time. Five minutes later, she was walking like she owned that machine! To say she’s happy while walking or running on it would be an understatement.

My toy-sized dog has taken to this treadmill like a duck to water. When she gets up in the morning, the first thing she does is hop up on her treadmill and waits for me to turn it on!  She doesn’t even bother going to the bathroom first.  Walking on the treadmill takes precedence over everything…  She will trot for a mile, then walk and she’s a happy little pupper.  She sometimes wants to walk another mile in the afternoon, which is no problem at all.  Simply flip the toggle switch, then adjust the speed and she’s good to go for her afternoon stroll in the warmth and comfort of my living room.  What could be easier than that?  No hot asphalt on her paws and no mud on my floors when it’s raining out.  How great is THAT? And when she’s done, I can simply fold it up against the wall or slide it under the bed.  Talk about convenient!

My verdict on the dogPACER Minipacer Treadmill

So far it is wonderful. It’s much quieter than I thought it would be. My little dog adores her treadmill, and so do I.  And since dogPACER created this treadmill especially for dogs, I have no worries about her safety.  The quick stop mechanism is always there to stop the machine immediately if need be, which gives me an additional sense of security. DogPACER really thought of everything when they created this dream machine. I highly recommend it!

What do you think of this dog treadmill?  Any thoughts or concerns?  Would you buy it or do you own one?

  1. I think it’s perfectly sensible that treadmills for dogs exist, especially toy dogs who live in brutally cold climates. It’s just not sensible to bring a 5lb animal out for a walk when it’s -30 outside 🙂

I’m glad you’ve been having such a great experience with this model. I wonder if these devices would work at all for cats?!

  2. I’ve seen it all now! what a great way to provide exercise for your dog haha. All mine does is lay around looking sad when I can’t take her for a walk, maybe this will motivate her to do it herself!

Thanks for the great article, i’ll check out the product:)

  3. A treadmill for dogs? I am seriously going to have to check this out for my mom. Okay, that came out wrong! My mom has a bad hip, so she can’t always take her dog out for a walk. That sounds much better LOL. She would absolutely love to have one of these for her dog.

Anyway, yes, this is a fantastic invention. At first I was a little leary, but it makes sense for a lot of people. I can see people who live in high rise apartments using a doggy treadmill. This would also be awesome for bad weather, which you mentioned. I love the adjustable speed and different sizes.

Thanks for sharing, this is a really cool idea.

    • Ha ha, Steve! Glad you cleared that up 😉

This would be great for your mom’s dog. Please come back and tell us about it if she gets one, thank you!

  4. This is awesome! I have two dogs and one is very active as he is still fairly young. The other little guy has gotten pretty lazy and he gets over weight so easy. I hate having to always have him on a diet. This seems a LOT better. That way he can eat tasty food like his brother and then get some exercise! Do you know if it helps there joints out?

    • Oh your active dog would love it! I have a hyper terrier and this is the only thing that really wears her out. It would be great for your overweight dog also. Yes, it helps joints also due to the exercise building up muscle around them. I know someone that has a lab with hip dysplasia and the treadmill has helped, but a water treadmill or hydro therapy would be ideal and the most beneficial for joints. Thank you for the question.

  5. We’re in a milder climate where the dogs can get out for a walk. However, on those 100 degree summer days, the dogs would probably love to use an indoor treadmill. What a great idea for pets as an alternative to an outdoor walk! It sounds like the manufacturers have thought of everything. I’ll have to share this info with a neighbor who has an older dog that really minds the cool mornings. It shivers even with a sweater or jacket on. Sounds like it would be a good candidate for the DogPacer Treadmill. Great post! 🙂

    • Hello Colleen, thanks so much for your comment and for sharing this dog treadmill with your neighbor. I hope it helps her dog if she decides to get one. 🙂

  6. Wow wee Tammy! Treadmills for dogs?! That’s a new one on me. Like Penelope says, this is a great option for those living in harsh climates where dog walking isn’t an option.

I would hope that owners wouldn’t become complacent about walking their pets because they had this ‘dogmill’ though.

Very interesting concept indeed. I for one have learnt something new today!

    • Thank you, Lace. I would hope they wouldn’t become complacent either. It’s so important for dogs to get a good walk outside for all the smells and fresh air. Thanks for the comment!

  7. Wow! I had never heard of a dog treadmill before. I can see how it would be useful in places where it snows quite heavily in winter making it impossible to get out of the house. I can’t even imagine how my hyper-exuberant boxer-blue heeler cross would cope with not being able to run around like crazy! We are fortunate where we live that it never snows and winters are very mild. However, our summers can be nasty – February was above 30 degrees celsius the whole month and over 35 degrees for days on end! It might suit someone here when it is too hot to go out, although we just ensure our dog has a run early in the morning and again in the evening when it is much cooler. Thanks for introducing this product to me.

  8. no way! i never knew anything like this even existed!
what a brilliant invention though, especially for those days when the weather is too bad to take their dog outside, or for those who may be housebound and unable to take their dog on regular walks.
it looks like you have had amazing success using it Tammy, i think it looks well worth the price for what it provides and it looks extremely easy to set up, great review!

  9. OMG…This is absolutely adorable and awesome!
I once had to take care of this obese dog and at first the owners asked me to take him for walks, but sometimes the weather would feel extreme for the poor pup so i would end up carrying him back.
I was able to successfully get him using a regular treadmill but at first he was terrified of that thing… i wish I knew tiny treadmills like this existed.
I think this is an awesome must have for dog owners, especially for some that, whether is health or time or something that doesn’t allow us to take them for walk, we can still help them stay healthy and use their energy in a good way…that doesn’t involve destroying things.
I will direct my friends with pups to check it out!
I love finding out of more awesome things for dogs! Awesome post!

  10. Oh wao, here I found it. One of my friend was asking me about the same thing for her dog. She is pregnant and lives in an apartment, sometimes doesn’t feel good going outside and remains worried for her dog’s walk. But after looking this post I am sure she won’t be worried anymore. Thanks for sharing this post.

  11. My friend had a really chubby pug who just loved sleeping and eating and she discussed to me about purchasing a treadmill for her dog! I found it funny at the time because I didn’t know there were treadmills for dogs. Although now I can see how it would benefit dogs, but I still find it an expensive purchase. I would probably choose the cheaper route of walking and jogging around with my dog.

    • I take my dogs for walks daily, but I have a terrier that has tons of energy, she will go all day; I can’t keep up with her. The treadmill is good when the weather is just too hot or cold. Also, some elderly people or others that just can’t get out to exercise their dogs.
